Several streams bisect the trail and some places will flood during summer rains. To go to Long Falls Dam Road, follow the trail to the left. To see Poplar Stream Falls, continue on the trail a short distance to the right. After approximately a mile the trail splits. The first mile of this 4 wheel drive and snowmobile road is somewhat steep and rocky. Continue over the bridge and up the hill, past the Houston Brook Road. This scenic loop can also be a lot of fun for the expert biker, depending on the speed traveled.ĬARRIAGE ROAD: This 5 mile trail starts from Tufulio’s Restaurant is a difficult one met for the experienced rider. The Narrow Gauge Trail will take you back to Tufulio’s. From there head south on Route 27 over Bigelow Hill to Bigelow Station. Continue on past the Apalachian Trail head to Route 27. This trails leads you to Stratton Brook Pond at the base of the Firewarden Trail. When this road takes a hard right uphill, follow the single track trail to the left. The first 5 miles of the trail are run over double-track logging roads. Continue to follow this road past an iron gate into the Bigelow Preserve. Park your car at the restaurant, cross the Carriage Road bridge and turn left on the Houston Brook Road.
